Andy Shireman General Notice that it is 1995 and there is still a CNW track in place. That decrepit-looking track was once the pride and joy of the M&St.L to Peoria, Illinois. 11/1/2007 11:35:14 AM
Andy Shireman General They had two main tracks here until 1991. The track west of Shady Oak Road was ripped up in the fall of 1991 and a local from East Minneapolis came out. There was a business near Minnehaha Creek (now Atlas Cold Storage) and there were a couple of businesses west of 11th Ave. in Hopkins. 11/1/2007 11:37:36 AM
Andy Shireman General The Milwaukee Road and MN&S had seen better days as well. 11/1/2007 11:38:03 AM
Andy Shireman General Soo Line did not want to provide service into Hopkins on the old CNW track...so it was ripped up not long after this shot was taken. By fall 1998, there was only ballast here. 11/1/2007 11:42:27 AM
Andy Shireman General Forgot to mention one other thing...since Union Pacific acquired the CNW around this time, isn't this technically a Union Pacific spur into Hopkins. I would be surprised if the UP ever ran a local into Hopkins with a UP engine that soon after the merger. But the UP did have a spur into Hopkins for only a few months to a year!! 11/1/2007 11:44:30 AM
Andy Shireman General I think during this time in the spring of 1995, there was the "Soo Strike" going on and TCW crews handled the M&NS line between Crystal and Bloomington (plus the Hi Line up through Richfield to South Minneapolis/Nicollet Ave.). So I think this is a picture of the MN&S Job 630 with TCW power instead of ex-Milw bandit MP15AC's lettered for Soo Line. 1996 (the year after this photo) was the first year that TCW officially had trackage rights to Savage and Camden. 11/1/2007 10:31:40 PM
